Tips for hosting Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, food, and gratitude. Who doesn’t look forward to mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, and the headliner of the day: the turkey? If you are the one who is hosting the Thanksgiving Day feast, are you prepared? Being prepared also includes safety. Especially if you are living in an apartment. Here are some tips on hosting the best Thanksgiving Day feast, that will have your guests wanting to come every year.

The most important part is finished, you have your Thanksgiving Day menu, and you know who will be bringing other foods, drinks, etc. to dinner. Other than the delicious food, guests will also be amazed by the seasonal decorations, table settings, and centerpieces. Seriously, what would a beautifully set Thanksgiving table be without the star of the show: a centerpiece? Seasonal florals, colorful table runners, pumpkins, apples, and branches, that adorn your table make eye-catching centerpieces.  You can make them simple, grand, high-style, or kid-friendly for a captivating Thanksgiving dinner.

Most Thanksgiving Day feasts and parties include children of all ages. Be sure to include some activities or crafts for kids to enjoy. Have some art supplies and they each draw a Thanksgiving Day turkey. If you happen to have pinecones close by, kids can make a few pinecone turkeys for the table setting.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful. Have the kids make a gratitude leaf garland and everyone can write on each leaf, what they are grateful for. For the older kids, maybe play a safe game of football or cornhole outside.

The menu, table, and children are all set. Now you need some adult entertainment throughout the day. Be sure to get your Thanksgiving dinner playlist ready. Include the famous Thanksgiving Song by Adam Sandler. Don’t forget to have the Macy’s Day parade on and afterward the National Football League Thanksgiving Day games. For those who are not big fans of football, the Westminster Dog Show is a great alternative.

Lastly, be sure you are safe! Making sure both guests and the apartment are safe will help everyone feel comfortable and in the best mood to celebrate. Keep an eye on all open flames during cooking. We’ve all had those uh-oh moments in the kitchen with fires. Check your smoke alarm prior the day before. Thanksgiving is the peak day for home-cooking fires across the country. Once cooking is finished and everyone has gone home, before going to bed, make sure all the burners, oven, candles, and fireplace are all turned off. Be sure your renter’s insurance is up to date and you are covered from any mishaps. Make sure you are protected with Resident Shield.

Now that we’ve inspired you to host Thanksgiving this year, get to it before the lines are long at stores. And be sure to not get too turkey full and miss out on all the Black Friday deals the next day.
