Celebrating Women on March 8

Celebrating Women on March 8

Let’s explore ideas to celebrate International Women’s Day, March 8, at work and on social media.

Highlight a woman that’s inspired you. From Rosa Parks to Oprah Winfrey, countless women have impacted the world with their inspiration. Share a post on social media of a woman that’s inspired you in some way and explain why she’s impacted your life. Use this post to encourage your followers to share the women who have impacted their lives to create more engagement. Then, get the office involved and have everyone honor their inspirations on social media.

Raise awareness of women in your industry. International Women’s Day is a great way to show appreciation toward the women in your company and raise awareness of their significance. Use your social media platform as a source of inspiration, a place that pays tribute to the creators and enables your followers to learn. You could even include an interview employee spotlight blog with some of the top female go-getters in the company.

Promote a local woman’s day sale or giveaway. If you are a property owner or manager, consider doing an International Women’s Day giveaway. Put together some locally owned women-owned business gift cards or products designed specifically for women. In fact, according to a study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science, women have greater moral reservations about ethical compromises in business. If you care about thoughtful, sustainable, and ethical companies and want to help bridge the gender gap in business. Then there’s no better time to make a difference than International Women’s Day.

Wear purple. Purple is the color for power, strength, justice, and dignity, which is why it is the official universal International Women’s Day color. Get the office to all wear purple or make some purple ribbons to wear. This is a great photo opportunity as well. Get a group photo and post it to social media.

Donate to local organizations that support women and children. Donations to a nonprofit specifically for women and children are an incredible way to give back to the community and show you care. Yardi has several women-supported nonprofits, specifically, if you are in the Santa Barbara area, Girls Inc. Read about them here and find more nonprofits on the giving page of The Balance Sheet. You could even include your employees and volunteer for the day; if they donate money, you can match what they contribute.

Celebrate women. Aside from the office and social media, you can personally celebrate the day with a dance party and a movie marathon. If Beyonce’s, Who Runs the World, is not already on your playlist, you might want to reevaluate your celebration. Check out Apple Music or Spotify for some playlist suggestions. End the day with some popcorn and snacks, cuddle under the blankets, and stream or rent movies made by women filmmakers: Nomadland, Little Women, Lady Bird, The Farewell, and Wonder Woman, to name a few.

Remember, empowered women, empower women. Be the change you wish to see in the world. Though there has been some significant progress for women in business, there are still strides to be made. Using social media and office awareness is a start to greatness for all.
