No Lonely Hearts, Pet Edition

Don’t let being single and flying solo put a damper on Cupid’s Day. Instead, celebrate with pets. They are the real masters of unconditional love, after all. Here are some ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with your pets.

Accommodate a picnic. Start the day off, weather permitting, with a drive to a local park, and bring a picnic stocked with treats for both of you. Then, if the weather is rainy or too cold, drive to a nearby Starbucks, and hit up the drive-thru for a warm beverage for yourself and a puppuccino for your pup. Go ahead and get a cake pop too. You deserve it!

Break out some creative crafts. Get some art supplies, pour a glass of wine, and unleash your inner Picasso. Pets can have unexpected talents too. Have them create a masterpiece with paint and paws. Just be sure to clean them off afterward. And before starting with paint crafts, be sure you added Pet Damage Coverage to your renter’s insurance policy. ResidentShield’s Pet Damage Coverage offers you $500 in liability coverage in case of pet damage to the apartment. If you prefer not to paint, create a flower crown for you and your pet.

Indulge in a spa night. After doing messy arts and crafts, have a relaxing spa night. Get into the bathtub and clean off the paws. A relaxing bath, blow dry, and mani-pedi sounds divine. Recreate that experience for yourself and the same for your dog with some leisurely grooming. Since most cats do not like the water, try a peaceful brushing session instead.

Dance pawty. Get the heart pumping and endorphins flowing with a good dance party. Select your favorite tunes (Who let the dogs out by Baha Men or anything by Cat Stevens) and invite your dog or cat to join in while you groove. It doesn’t matter if you have smooth dance moves or not. Your dance partner won’t mind at all.

Bake some sweet treats. Peanut butter is a favorite for dogs worldwide. Peanut butter, banana, and pumpkin pup cakes will be a favorite for your fur baby. You can also have some for a healthier treat since these recipes do not call for sugar. Find three-holiday pet-friendly treats here.

Movie night. After baking up some sweet treats, grab some blankets, go to the sofa, and watch animal movies together. Rom-coms are always good on Valentine’s Day but try a movie with a pet theme or one that features a pet stealing every scene. Turner and Hooch is a great movie to watch and won’t have you reaching for the tissues like Marley and Me might. John Wick is always there for his dog if you are craving more action.

If you do not own a pet, Valentine’s Day is a keen time to consider adopting a forever love. Your local shelters have dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and personalities just waiting to hear that tremendous question: “Will you be mine?”
